Cities of Culture

In 1492, in the same year America was discovered, a Russian fortress was built on the other side of the river in Jaanilinn, just opposite the German Stronghold of Order. Thus an eastern border of Europe was fixed.

Now a border town Narva, the Estonian autumn capital, has become an eastern gate of the European Union. The road leads straight to St. Petersburg, the Russian capital of the North.
